A found excerpt from the Mystic Memoire of the late Magister Siegfried Kettles.
As magister of Sanguinati History, I often receive questions from my most keen apprentices of magic about the island country of Hoopenfangia, and the legend of the Hoodoo Sea. It is perplexing to me that they are not learning this earlier. Year after year, there is a mysteriously spreading unawareness concerning the basic details of our history and 92,040 square mile geography. This may be in part from our inherited fear of getting too close to our coastal shores, which the Great Witch safely hid with an enchanted barrier in the Hoodoo Sea as soon as we witches became targets of superstitious Nizzertits.
I feel I’ll soon run out of permissible reasons for why the inhabitants of Hoopenfangia haven’t been able to leave this country for over four hundred years. Even more, I fear apathy. When I tell my apprentices that we are located in the western part of the North Atlantic Ocean, just above the Tropic of Cancer, it means little to them, much less our nearness to the continent of North America. What I must be most cautious of revealing, however, is the three points of contact—yes, I can say an odd number if only in my private journal. It makes no sense as to why I must censor the truth, the same way the vespercestors have banned crystal. It’s just another form of superstition. The outer veil does connect at three points—more than a triangle, it’s the power pyramid of the Atlantic, bounded by strange regions known as Florida, Bermuda, and Puerto Rico—so close and yet so far.
Since well before Columbus made his voyage to America, the Great Witch’s magic barrier around Hoopenfangia has kept our inhabitants safe. And those inhabitants were and are the enchanted beasts and beings, which people in the outside world now deem mythical or extinct, although much of the dinosaur population has dwindled here. Curious trend; apparently, Nizzertits are forgetting their history also. But we are not as the common folk.
We practitioners of the ancient craft are alive as well, thanks to this enchanted veil now known as the Bermuda or Devil’s Triangle. I must keep giving this excuse to my apprentices and I agree: Nizzertits from other countries cannot see or reach Hoopenfangia. Their ships and planes are thrown off course, capsized, lost in limbo by the triangle—the veil they experience as a quantum vacuum, a labyrinth of fog. Likewise, the outside world must continue to mistake our Vortexes of Revealing and crystaleers as UFOs and ghost ships. They must continue to confuse our wand spells as balls of fire and flares. The Vortexes of Revealing we send out through the skies are keeping Mystic Ministry informed. The rest of the world is starting to suspect our civilization here behind the veil as many are starting to realize this is the location of our ancient predecessor city of ruin, Atlantis. Let us hope they continue to mistake our magic here as only electromagnetic disturbances from that vanished civilization.
That is why I remain the theurgist of Sanguinati History, to keep my people, my history from vanishing. We are not a speck on the earth’s face; we are slightly larger than Britain and that island has been christened “Great.” Whatever curse befell Hoopenfangia, the work of the Grim Warlock, or Ambergis perhaps . . . turning our once unified land into an archipelago—I find the similarity fitting for we are barely hanging on in these ten interconnected regions of Hoopenfangia. Nevertheless, I fear Bogamuckla, Cutthili, Diabolishire, Humpdaisy, Lavisham, Puckernilli, Severance, Sipwiset, Sixth Vein, and Wrathestan may follow the fate of our predecessor city and sink to the bottom of the Atlantic.
The country of Hoopenfangia is a group of mostly interconnected island regions (an archipelago) hidden by an enchanted barrier in the Bermuda Triangle near the continent of North America. The total area of the Hoopenfangia is 92,040 square miles. Hoopenfangia is divided into ten regions: Bogamuckla; Cutthili; Diabolishire; Humpdaisy; Lavisham; Puckernilli; Severance; Sipwiset; Sixth Vein; and Wrathestan.
The inhabitants of Hoopenfangia fall into four primary groups of people: The Sanguinati, Noctivatians, Sorcerers, and Nizzertits. The largest group of inhabitants, known as the Sanguinati, holds the primary control of Hoopenfangia, especially the region of Severance. The second largest group of inhabitants is non-magical Nizzertits. The third largest group of inhabitants is the Sorcerers, and lastly the Noctivatians who incorporate a hybrid humanoid group called the Wiggiwamis to strengthen their group. There are a few independent witches and vampires living in near isolation, but not much is known about them.
Hoopenfangia has every creature imaginable, creatures the rest of the known world imagines as mythical or extinct, although much of the dinosaur population has dwindled significantly.
Known jokingly as the Great Steepled Creep Show over Hoopenfangia, Mystic Steeples is not a school in the modern sense; it is an enormous sovereign institution, with assemblies lasting all day and all week. It resembles an enormous citadel surrounding the city it rules.
Located within the city of Severance, Hoopenfangia, Mystic Steeples is the governing body of most of the country of Hoopenfangia, serving as the administrative center of the Sanguinati. It is the official home of the reigning head vespercestor and the meeting place for the lesser vespercestors and other divisions of Mystic Ministry.

Grossatete Sanatorium is the third largest institution of the Sanguinati, a reformatory prison located approximately one mile behind Mystic Steeples and Mystic City within the region of Severance in southeast Hoopenfangia. Grossatete Sanatorium is home to Sanatorium Stadium, the fourth largest sporting arena in the country. Inmates here are only allowed to attend the tournament when the games are hosted at the sanatorium, unless they are players or game assistants, then they are heavily monitored by security.
